About Ashley

Who is Ashley DuChene Photography?

The team consists of me, Ashley, and a post-production editing crew. I am a portrait and commercial photographer with 18+ years of professional photography experience. I am known by clients for my ability to bring out smiles and find the best light, angles, and colors. I delegate post-session workflow to professional image editors trained in photoshop, lightroom, and graphic design. Post-session, they select and color-adjust 80+ images for your gallery. Then, once you’ve selected your favorite images for retouching, the editors work their magic!

A Note from Ashley

Thank you so much for taking the time to explore my website, my name is Ashley DuChene (pronounced like Du-Shane) and I’m based in San Diego, CA. I’m a second-generation photographer who feels very lucky to have been able to turn my childhood passion into a fulfilling career for almost two decades. Growing up, I had one parent who was a photographer, the other an organizational psychologist. Being exposed to their books and lifestyles, it was a natural fit to pursue photography and psychology for my college education.

Soon after college, I started my professional photography career working at a boutique studio. The studio kept me busy with hundreds of weddings and portrait sessions every year but once I started my family, it was clear that freelance work was a better fit and so I began my own business. In addition to photographing families, I also do commercial photography projects for various businesses and magazines.

The past couple of years have been exciting for me and have proven to be a turning point in my desire to pursue further education in Psychology.  In 2017, I was “discovered” by Yelp as a top, reputable business owner and invited to present at Yelp’s San Francisco Headquarters to the CEO, management, and hundreds of business owners. The topic:  The Importance of Excellent Customer Service. As I nervously worked on my speech, I was astounded at how much psychology I use to enhance my client interactions. Helping my photography clients work through their nerves and family dynamics for more enjoyable photo sessions is part of what defines me as unique in a very saturated market.

A few years ago, I completed a Master of Arts in Marriage & Family Therapy.  I am very much enjoying this dual-career lifestyle and plan to continue as a pro-photographer and therapist for years to come.

Again, I thank you for visiting the site and taking the time to get to know me a bit better.  I hope to meet and photograph you soon!”
